It’s not easy to be a gender-conforming (femme) queer girl.

Don’t get me wrong- I understand how fucking hard it is to express genderqueer (butch); I did for about a year. People stare, you lose any “chivalry” from most guys and comfort around a huge amount of girls. You can’t find clothes that fit the way you want them to. You get mistaken for a boy. Your hair is always getting messed up. I know.

But it’s also hard going virtually undetectable within the demographic with which you identify the strongest. It’s hard being pigeonholed as “lipstick” or “top” or “bitch.” And it’s fucking hard going out with friends and being assumed “the straight girl who tagged along” (you don’t have to “seduce” me- I’m already on your team).

Just sayin. When it comes to “privilege,” I’m not sure there really is one.
